Philly-area producer and musician Terry Weiss crafted Skeeter Jones and The Fireflies to tell captivating stories about life through music. Colored by hard and progressive rock, the project's sound is defined by compelling grooves and searing funk. Terry aptly calls it coma-resistant music. Living on the edge of the Philly music scene as a bass player for a seeming lifetime, Skeeter Jones and The Fireflies is the product of years of composing, learning and playing.
Terry's approach places the story and groove front and center. His arrangements ensure the songs are "well performed, without any unnecessary shredding" so that nothing distracts from the core narrative and rhythm. This meticulous approach results in tracks that have been praised as "so, so rich compositionally," "strong compositions, intricate arrangements," "this is what would happen if Vernon Reid sat in with The Meters." Maybe the best description is "it's clear he's been playing and loving music forever."
Feathers, Skeeter Jones and The Fireflies debut EP, is inspired by Emily Dickinson's poem "Hope is the thing with feathers." It features stories about hope: hope fulfilled, hope unlooked for, hope frustrated. The topics range from the title track's study of mental illness to Listen Up, a song about the hope inspired by the civil rights movement in the 60's. Along the way, Terry celebrates the little moments in life like watching fireflies at night in Firefly Mating Dance and falling in love in For Anne (and Only Anne).
“Strong compositions, intricate arrangements and clean production. Very well performed, without any unnecessary shredding”
